ONWARD Movie Review (by Sayan Das)
This movie begins with a context to teenage elf brothers Ian
and Barley embarking on a magical quest to spend one more day with their late
father. Like any good adventure, their journey is filled with cryptic maps,
impossible obstacles and unimaginable discoveries. But when their Mom finds out
her sons are missing, she teams up with the legendary manticore to bring her
beloved boys back home.
The film portrays how evolution of technology has made lives
a little too easier for people and in this case for elves. The elves who
previously relied on magic to perform their day to day tasks are now taking the
so called easy way rather their utilising their special potential.
This movie happens to be the perfect depiction of what a person
can achieve if he believes in himself and works towards his goal. Even if a
character doesn't get what they thought they wanted, they learn what they need
to.
Brotherly love and family feelings are all that is portrayed
in this film. Ian and Barley (voice acted by Tom Holland and Chris Pratt) lost
their father when Barley was little and Ian wasn’t born. Their father being a
wizard left a trail for his sons to follow so that he could be brought back for
a whole day. The main plot of the film is how they manage to talk to their
father by overcoming all difficulties and their sacrifices to meet their father.
This movie in my opinion is a must watch for teens as well
as children as it clearly teaches some valuable life lessons with the mind-blowing
animation of Pixar. The film also provides comedy sequences which are
delightful to watch. Revealing more would be spoiling the movie for the audience,
but I genuinely feel like Onward shouldn't be overlooked in its simplicity, it
will surprise you and take you on a journey that will lead you venturing toward
the whimsical world of Onward.
